A short bit about me. Dad was in the Marine Corps. We moved a lot. Out of Marines in 1969. My dad, mom, sister (my only sibling), and of course me landed in Wilmore, Kentucky.
Dad attended Asbury College. Mom worked at the college and did a lot of Mom stuff.
Sister and me went to school at Wilmore Elementary, then Jessamine County Junior High. This went on from my 2nd grade year through the first half of my 9th grade year. Then we picked up and moved to Priddy, Texas.
We lived in Priddy through the 2nd half of 9th grade, and my 10th grade year. For 10th grade through High School graduation, I attended Brownwood Senior High in nearby Brownwood, Texas.
Tried to play a little football but my heart wasn't in it like when I was playing in Kentucky. Still got to stay on the team thanks to the graciousness of Coach Gordon Wood. Seems Coach preferred live tackling dummies instead of the stuffed ones. Made some friends and enjoyed my High School days until graduating in May, 1980.
Received a scholarship from the grocery chain, Winn Dixie. It was for an essay I wrote while working there during my 12th grade year. Opted to use it at nearby Cisco Junior College. Got bored with college.
Moved to Casper, Wyoming in October, 1980 to make my fortune in the oilfield. Didn't happen but I found a priceless treasure, my wife Susie. We were married in August, 1981, Welcomed our first child, a son, in June, 1982. Go ahead count the months the ladies in our church were very good mathematicians.
Zooming ahead. We moved to Brownwood, Texas, sometime in 1983, I think. I've forgotten the exact date. The oilfield in Wyoming bottomed out for a bit.
In Brownwood Susie and I worked and carried on. I attended the Police Academy at Tarleton State in Stephenville, Texas, while working at Kohler in Brownwood. Have no idea how we made that work. Now, I know we didn't. God did.
Joe Don Taylor, Brownwood Police Chief then, hired me when I graduated from the Academy in 1985. Worked for the Brownwood Police until May, 1989. Signed on with the Bryan, Texas, Police, and began life there as an officer in June, 1989.
In Bryan, Susie worked a little, but the majority of the time she stayed home with our young children. Three of them. Oldest boy born in Casper, a daughter, then a son, both born in Brownwood.
I stayed at Bryan PD until 1995. Those years flew by in a blur, especially after Susie suffered a minor assault in retaliation for my services as an officer.
During our time in Bryan we attended the Nazarene Church. Not as faithfully as we should've. Lonnie Green was and as of this date still is the Pastor.
I became a driver/contractor for a fledgling small package delivery company named RPS. It eventually became FedEx Ground & Home. In 2012, Susie and I decided to sell the business contracted for deliveries to FedEx.
I've written a lot throughout my life. It was/is a passion. I would now write full-time. She was a 5th grade science teacher with Bryan, TX ISD. She had also graduated from Texas A&M before going into teaching.
Susie became ill a few months later. I laid everything aside to be her full-time care giver. She died in January, 2017. I got myself in a bit of trouble several months before her death. We were now living in Hamilton, Texas.
Two months after her death, I plead guilty to a charge against me after becoming addicted to and abusing an over the counter drug. My troubles continued.
I went into SAFPF, a supposed rehab program conducted by the state of Texas. I returned to Hamilton in July, 2019.
As of now I still struggle some with that addiction. I've turned everything in my life back over to God and am continuing on. This has brought me back to writing again. Thanks much for visiting.
P.S. That "back over to God," remark brings a couple things to mind. In Casper when I was struggling and praying about an occupation I should enter as the oilfield was bust, God literally punctuated my prayer one morning.
I was alone in the living room of our small mobile home praying. When I prayed, "in Jesus Name, Amen," there was a knock at the front door. It was a Casper Police Officer.
He had been called by someone regarding a vehicle at the curb. He thought it belonged to us. It was the neighbors.
While talking with the officer God spoke to me like He does all of us. Quietly in my mind, "I want you to be a Police Officer."
I take things very practical and am aware of subtle differences. Many of y'all do that, you just might not realize it.
God said, "Police Officer," not Deputy, not jailer, y'all know what I mean. I started my journey to Police Officer the next day.
All of that and how I came to be with FedEx will eventually make it to my blog. But I give God credit for my life experiences. Goodbye for now. God bless.
